Michelle Nolan
After triple majoring in pre-med, forensic psychology and philosophy, working at the family business, starting an Internet company and attempting to finish an MBA, Michelle surprisingly chose to settle on photography as her career.
Her life is a series of dichotomies. Being of Asian descent, born in the Midwest and well traveled by the time she was 23, Michelle was raised by a former Irish catholic priest and Filipino disc jockey 14 years apart in age. She attended 4 different high schools from a small all-girls private academy to a large coed public institution. Eventually choosing to leave a well-compensated job to return to school at the Brooks Institute in California at the age of 29.
Whether from these influences, or maybe just from an overdose of popcorn in her diet, Michelle found photography the perfect fit. Its blend of science and art, prerequisite for both creative and business savvy, need for a big picture yet detailed mind, and the demand for an independent but social lifestyle is precisely what she felt born for. Who knows what other escapade she’ll be a part of tomorrow, but for now, as she would say, “this is awwwesome.”
She shoots for fashion, editorial, advertising and fine art. She creates visual narratives almost always with people as her subject, as her father likes to say, “How can you tell a story without a person in it?”
